SIKUZWE
K-12 COMMUNITY SCHOOL - ZAMBEZI

Picture
Picture
Currently young children from the Sikuzwe area need to walk several kilometers to the nearest school in Katima Mulilo. This is particularly challenging for the younger (K-6) children. Busses are not available and parents cannot accompany the children to school. Thus, young children are entrusted to the care and protection of others, not much older than they are or just stay home. Parents and members of the community came together and formed the Sikuzwe Community Project, which comprises the school. The community members raised some funding for the founding of the school project, but need additional funding to construct the school and secure first year of salary for 16 staff. The community will establish teams of volunteers who will rotate in cleaning and maintaining the premises.

The school will consist of 4 blocks of 3 classes and 1 block of 1 class, canteen, restrooms and office. The appearances will be fitting to the environment. The number of students K-12 will be approximately 160. 14 teachers will administer the classes and opportunity for PE, art and music will be provided. The school will follow the Namibian curriculum and link up with, provide and promote access to higher education regionally or in the capital Windhoek. Graduated students’ progress will be monitored and assistance provided for academic scholarships befitting the student’s ambitions.

The basic need for the Sikuzwe K-12 school is estimated as follows:
  1. Five building blocks of each 3 equal class rooms, each of approximately 12’ x 15’ at $60,000 each
  2. Benches + Desks adequate for each class age, 13 age groups x 15 units per group $ 5,000 (locally made)
  3. 1 year payroll for 16 staff $64,000
  4. Extra curricula items and materials $ 12,000
KDI’s goal is to raise $365,000 United States Dollars (€350,000) to realize this important project.
